As a resident of Adelaide Metcalfe, I oppose the building of this facility. First and foremost, Biosolids are known to contain PFAs (forever chemicals) that have been linked to a host of health issues including cancer and immune disorders.
The proposed plan includes that “treated” storm water will eventually be discharged into a municipal ditch which will ultimately drain to the Sydenham River located downhill from the site, just 900 metres away. PFAs are not removed in the production of biosolids. The water runoff from this facility, treated or not, will contain PFAs that will continuously drain into the Sydenham River and Lake St Clair watershed endangering the health of the watershed, associated wildlife, and surrounding communities. This continuous exposure would also pose a threat to local area wells due to the risk of groundwater contamination.
