Biosolids Storage Facility response to
Oct 31/24 appeal
25700 Kerwood Road
Adelaide-Metcalfe, Ontario
Why the OLT would rule in favour of a biosolids storage facility at this or any location is beyond ! If this would be the first in Ontario - this is a first that we DO NOT WANT.
Because one landowner thinks he would like to do something different to make money, against the wishes of the community and has already put disarray into another Township/County prior.
A good neighbourly experience for others - NO !
This is currently being reviewed by the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks. My impression of the association would be to protect the environment and not make horrific decisions that may hamper ANY COMMUNITY which should be protected. To predict the outcome of the detrimental affect this could possibly bring to human life, domestic animals, livestock animals, wild animals and fish in neighbouring streams and rivers - one cannot know as no such facility has been allowed to exist here at least.
Undesired/dangerous effect to contamination of the land, air pollution, and the runoff to waterways in the area as well as to water table of wells for human/animal consumption.
I am not AT THIS TIME about to spend time to investigate this in-depth but Fred Cahill’s water sample of ground water speaks loudly to address just the concern of storm water runoff.
Not giving consideration to the horrific smell I did encounter, as lots of others did when this same individual housed piles of “crap” in another county before he was demanded stopped.
Decrease in any land value in the proposed area would be experienced. For people in the community that this would affect. To have your “prize treasured possibly family owned for generations” land instantly be turned into a very undesirable location to even want to live. The horrible smell, the nastiness seeping into the ground.
As a 60 year old resident of Adelaide-Metcalfe, and anyone would say as a human we strive to keep ourselves safe from dangerous substances the best we can.
As a resident living close to Kerwood at some point after a Kerwood train derailment I witnessed water samples being taken from our local creek across the road, which would be about a concession road from the site. Obviously ground water run off was a concern for some Environmental services - for all good reason.
As a note the last time we checked local garden centres I have never noticed human feces pellets for sale as an acceptable form of fertilizer so why would it be acceptable to store and spread on farms.
There is a reason is has never been done in Ontario. Wherever else has done this if anywhere obviously had a wrongful decision made.
I’m confident that I speak for my 91 year old mother who has resided in this township all her life.
