As a concerned resident of Adelaide-Metcalfe, who lives within 100 metres of the proposed site for the biosolids storage facility, I am very concerned about the potential risks and hazards that this site would pose upon my family, my community, and the plant and animal life within the Sydenham River watershed. As a First Nation's women, with First Nation's children, our traditional hunting, fishing rights are very important, as is our relationship to the land and water. The Sydenham River runs through our backyard and we are avid canoeists and kayakers. Protecting the Sydenham River watershed from contaminated water run off is a top priority for us. The current site plan for the sewage biosolids storage facility does not take in to consideration the amount of extreme weather events that take place at the site location. it is located up hill from the Sydenham river and in the past, this site has flooded multiple times causing large amounts of water to run downhill directly into the Sydenham River. having the biosolids out in the open, piled 7 metres high with 2 bunkers at 46metres by 247 metres, covered only by tarps and tires, would not be sufficient to prevent large amounts of stormwater run off that would cause contamination and degradation of the Sydenham River watershed. If the storage facility were fully enclosed and able to fully contain the biosolids as well as maintaining humidity controls, that could help mitigate potential issues and concerns such as issues with dust control, odours and risks of spontaneous combustion. The facility should have a fully enclosed facility with full walls and a permanent roof, including the loading and unloading areas. There should also be a traffic impact study on the Sydenham watershed done on any issues with having multiple trucks loading and unloading large amounts of biosolids potentially daily most days of the year. Dust from trucks and noise pollution could negatively impact the water, plants and animals within the area. Miigwech for your consideration of the comment.
