This is a clear overreach by the provincial government and introduces excessive red tape for bike lane management in Toronto. Researchers who have studied the addition of bike lanes in other urban areas have shown that it does not worsen traffic congestion over time but instead relieves it as it encourages more bikers. Toronto does not need oversight by the province here. Instead, why not come up with an overall transportation strategy that includes cars, public transit, bikes and walkers?
