I fully support the extension of the moratorium, so that the environmental consequences of large scale commercial water extraction can be fully understood before further decisions regarding water taking permits are made.
Current and proposed extractions of water are at a scale that requires a full understanding of the manner in which the groundwater sources will be affected.
The provincial government has a duty to ascertain this information in order to be in a position to "use science and research to develop policies, legislation, regulations and standards" which, according to the the Ministry of Environment website, is "what we [Ministry of the Environment] do".
