Studies have shown that more lanes for cars do not reduce congestion. The best way to reduce congestion is to encourage more drivers / cars to get off the road — making public transit and biking actual useful options and models in order to encourage space- and congestion-saving options for commuters. It makes no sense that the province should have final say over this; let our cities plan for their futures without this needless, harmful, and expensive red tape.
