In a time when the IPCC has given humans less than a decade to avoid climate catastrophe, when even the most optimistic forecasts call for millions of premature deaths around the world due to climate change, how on earth can we be talking about creating new subsidies for fossil fuel industries? It is utterly irresponsible.
What this government should be subsidizing is the deployment of proven low- and zero-emission heating solutions. District heating and heat pumps are two heating technologies that could substantially reduce CO2 emissions while cutting costs. More information about them is included in the links below.
