Please, please do not put distracting signs on the highway. For one - it is incredibly unsafe. Both of my parents commute for over an hour a day to get from East Gwillimbury to their jobs in the city, often through incredibly awful weather. I want them to be safe! There are a LOT of bad drivers on the road, and we already have a lot of automobile accidents. If the point of a billboard is to get somebody's attention, then it shouldn't be on the road where people's attention should be driving!
Additionally, aesthetically it would be a disaster. Our highways take us past beautiful vistas - this is part of what makes road trips up to cottage country so great! Polluting that with billboards would take away from the joy of our Provincial and National park vacations.
Finally, we are constantly bombarded with advertisements. In this day and age, ads are even more stealth than they were before with 'sponsored content' on news websites, and 'sponsored stories' on social media streams. Having even more incursions onto our minds by corporations or political groups in order for the government to make pennies is morally wrong.
