Hello,
I’m writing to say that I’m strongly opposed to the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support the Ontario Place development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard. This plan would lead to discharging raw sewage into Lake Ontario. How can the Government of Ontario, which should be protecting our natural resources, condone a plan with such environmentally destructive consequences? This sewage would pollute our precious lake water and pose a risk to human health and wildlife. This part of Lake Ontario provides a place for swimming and fishing and should be considered a public asset, for residents and visitors alike. It should be protected from—not threatened by—development. The provincial government’s proposal ignores many years of work by Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers across the city to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into the lake. It also ignores numerous international agreements to protect Great Lakes water quality and habitats. As an Ontario resident, I cannot support this proposal and urge your department to reject it and demand proper consultations with the public about the plan.
