I agree with the intent of the proposed management plan for the park. Maintenanance of ecological integrity needs to be a primary concern here and will be an ongoing challenge with the possible numbers of park users and multiple entry points.
Trails need to be strictly controlled and should be constructed to a width of 1-2 metres, and with no buffer zones outside of that. Adjacent vegetation will be very prone to invasion by invasives species - trails are the main route for invasive plants to get into the lands. A high priority needs to be placed on controlling invasive species and they need to be removed and new ones eradicated on an ongoing basis. This includes any invasive species that were established by historic landowners. They need to be removed also, no exceptions. They will spread if we don't.
There needs to be enough staff and funds to carry out the necessary invasive plant control and control of visitor impacts all year. Parking lots should be gated and closed at dusk to reduce illegal dumping. Establish a routine of cleaning up vandalism and grafitti immediately (i.e. a broken window policy) to avoid a culture of neglect or permissiveness of violations becoming established.
No dog off-leash areas should be included in the park. Dogs should be leashed at all times.
Managers should consult with local indigenous peoples to arrange for culling of deer to keep their numbers below the minimum impact theshold level. This needs to occur regardless of public opposition as it is a key necessity of maintaining ecological integrity. All the negative effects of people and climate change on the lands will be made much worse by overgrazing by deer so you need to control them from the start. Engaging native peoples in the effort will contribute to reconciliation.
