I am writing to express my opposition to the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place). This plan contradicts decades of efforts by the City of Toronto to replace and separate combined sewers, which are essential for preventing raw sewage from being discharged into Lake Ontario. It also undermines international agreements aimed at protecting the water quality and ecosystems of the Great Lakes.
The proposed sewer poses significant risks to public health by potentially degrading water quality at beaches, harming fish populations, and diminishing the lake’s appeal as a destination for Canadian and international visitors. Furthermore, the province has not engaged in any public consultations regarding this project, which raises concerns about transparency and accountability.
Prioritizing private sector interests over public well-being and environmental protection is unacceptable, especially during a time of critical biodiversity loss. I urge you to deny this permit to protect Lake Ontario and the communities that depend on it.
