My comments on the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard follow. I am opposed to the proposal because:
(1) it will increase pollution in the Great Lakes - the largest body of fresh drinking water in the world. Increased water pollution creates health risks for all Ontario residents which will in turn increase the burden on our crumbling Ontario public health care system
(2) It is in conflict with decades of work by the City of Toronto and many other Ontario municipalities to separate and replace combined sewers and prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario.
(3) It violates the 2012 Canada-United States Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement which commits the governments of Canada and the United States to restore and protect the Great Lakes to achieve a series of objectives including: being a source of safe, high-quality drinking water; allowing for swimming and other recreational use, unrestricted by environmental quality concerns; allowing for human consumption of fish and wildlife unrestricted by concerns due to harmful pollutants.
(4) This effluent would also degrade water quality at beaches, fishing and the quality of the lake as an attraction for Canadian and international visitors.
This proposal is scary dangerous to the health and well being of Ontario residents and is not in the public interest. Please deny this permit.
