Approval for an interim combined sewer overflows to be constructed at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard West, in the City of Toronto should be denied on both environmental and financial reasons.
Combined sewer overflows should not be permitted period even on an interim basis. I understand the City of Toronto has been working to eliminate the older systems so it makes no sense to put in a new combined sewar outflow. It is also a total waste of tax payer funds.
Furthermore and critically, the planned discharge of raw sewage flows is behind the breakwater in the Western Channel, an area with little water flow increasing pollution and health risks for those using this waterfront area as well as further west on Sunnyside Beach. I lived in this area and the beachfront is used by many people for a variety of water related activities. They should not be deprived of the use of a cherished public space.
The proposal does not provide any information on the presenting page as to why Infrastructure Ontario is putting forth such an extraordinary request or the interim nature of it. It is my understanding that it is to facilitate a 10 acre landfill extension for the proposed Therme Spa. If this is the case, find another solution that includes a permanent compliant system that is properly done and does not threaten our water.
I trust that you will not permit the construction of an interim combined sewer overflows to be at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard.
Thank you for your consideration
