I'm commenting today on the idea of a temporary combined sewer to help out with development at
Ontario Place. I'm hugely opposed to this proposal. This plan seems to undo years of effort by Toronto to switch out combined sewers and stop raw sewage from ending up in Lake Ontario. Plus, it clashes with our international commitments to keep the Great Lakes clean and thriving. The impact could be pretty bad for people too, affecting everything from beach water quality to fishing and the lake's appeal to locals and tourists alike. Also, it’s a bummer that the province hasn’t asked the public what they think.
This proposal seems more about boosting private gains than serving the public good, and it could mess up the lake’s ecosystem, especially now when we're facing a big drop in biodiversity. Let's say no to this permit.
