I am providing my disapproval on the proposal for an interim combined sewer to push ahead the LARGELY unpopular and expensive development plans at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place). At a time when we should be making policies and plans to promote the longevity, environmental safety and health of Ontarians, we are instead making plans that could lead to devastating issues for our local water source, and wasting money that is desperately needed for healthcare, education and other more important things in our province.
The plans that Doug Ford has pushed forward (despite not following proper protocols, and despite not having any support by THE CONSTITUENTS HE SERVES), are only going to making Ontario weaker, less safe, and less autonomous. The proposal goes against decades of work by the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers across the city to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario. It flies in the face of international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes. The effluent also risks human health in terms of water quality at beaches, fishing and the quality of the lake as an attraction for local residents, Canadian and international visitors. The province has not held any consultations about this work with the general public. Changes like this, which could have such a long and devastating effect on residents of Ontario should not be made without the proper consultations with Ontarians. Its our space, not Doug Ford's, and he needs to stop treating this province like his property that he can sell off to his buddies.
The proposal to benefit the private sector initiatives is NOT in the public interest and threatens the stability of the lake ecosystem in a time of sever biodiversity loss. PLEASE DENY THIS PERMIT.
