I've always been concerned about the importance of maintaining the water quality of beautiful Lake Ontario in a healthy and ecologically sustainable fashion for present and future generations.
As such, I do not support Infrastructure Ontario's application for the approval of interim combined sewer overflows to be constructed on Lake Shore West.
The discharge of storm water into Lake Ontario, with this application arising from the very costly and unnecessary redevelopment of Ontario Place, will definitely present a pollution and health risk near the lakeshore. It is in an area where there is little water flow, increasing the threat of degrading the water quality of the West Channel in particular.
I am also very concerned that this application has not been publicized as much as it should have been. If not rejected, this application should at least be shelved until the government commits to full consultation with the public. In fact, I am much opposed to the entire plan for the redevelopment of Ontario Place as proposed by the provincial government.
Responsible groups such as Ontario Place for All and Ontario Place Protectors have much better, environmentally sustainable, green options for the renewal of Ontario Place that would protect and enhance this natural asset. A good start to renewing Ontario Place in a much more attractive and environmentally sustainable way would be to reject this application by Infrastructure Ontario.
Thank you.
