I am writing to express my concern and opposition to these proposed changes.
These changes prioritize economic development over science based conservation and almost entirely remove protections for Ontario's most vulnerable species. Allowing development to start with zero meaningful oversight threatens irreplaceable habitats and will do irreversible damage to already struggling populations of endangered species.
Allowing government to remove species from protections lists undermines science-based assessments. Reframing the definition of "habitat" to one that is so narrow should be reconsidered. Removing harassment as a prohibited action will do irreparable harm.
Ontario's biodiversity is not an obstacle to development, it is one of our greatest assets and should be protected at all costs. Our natural heritage is the most valuable thing in our province. Develop on already depleted, misused, and degraded.
Please reconsider. Future generations are depending on you. Please retain strong, science based protections for species at risk. Economic and housing progress are not mutually exclusive, true balance can be achieved but not in this way.
