I saw this article in a County Sustainability Group (CSG) column a short time ago. it was written by Joyce Maclean and expresses my sentiments exactly. So here it is, please consider it.

Joyce Maclean who wrote one of our CSG columns about White Pines a few months ago.....she hits it right on the mark with this :
The Environmental Bill of Rights is a piece of legislation I had the honour to work on in 1993/94. That groundbreaking law created the Environmental Commissioner's position as an independent, non-partisan legislative appointee in Ontario. It also provided a place for Ontario folks to say what they want regarding environmental protection or lack thereof in the province. What follows is my recent comment on the Ford government's attack on renewables - in particular the White Pines wind farm being forced to de-construct despite having all the appropriate approvals.
Renewable energy use is on the rise globally for two reasons - climate change (the need to stop burning fossil fuels) and cost (wind energy is now on par or cheaper than natural gas). With the introduction of supportive legislation in the 2000s, Ontario was seen as a leader in job creation and investment in this burgeoning sector. Business-friendly legislation created a mini boom of renewable energy jobs and money-flow into Ontario that allowed the province to stop burning highly polluting coal and help people breathe better. In part because of Ontario's previous climate change commitments and stimulative measures, wind energy around the globe now costs the same or less than natural gas generation. Sadly, despite the rhetoric expressed by the Ford government espousing that Ontario is "open for business", somehow a sector that employed thousands of Ontarians doesn't matter. Otherwise, why would the government deliberately kill jobs not only at the White Pines wind farm, but locally for wind energy service providers (planners, engineers, electricians for example) whose knowledgeable skills have easily been successfully grown through the wind industry? And why would a non-polluting electricity source in the middle of construction be stopped mid-stream? This is bad for business in Ontario. It's not about the Blanding Turtle either - the company spent ten years patiently waiting for the opportunity to generate clean electricity, something all Ontario folk want and need. What kind of business can be run where a government can arbitrarily cancel a signed contract? What kind of ethics does the Ford government posses? Ontario is not open for business - with the proposed de-construction of White Pines - it's official. Ontario is closed.
