It is completely unacceptable to gut the Endangered Species Act and put forth a less effective and rigorous piece of legislation. This Act removes science-based safeguards and opens the floodgates for unchecked habitat destruction, which will push vulnerable species closer towards extinction, and have untold consequences. The ESA was created to prevent corporations and developers from destroying critical habitat. This new proposal cuts critical protections, removes safeguards for habitats, and leaves Ontario's most at-risk species without protection. These kinds of harms cannot be undone and fast-tracking home building should not come at the expense of thee environment or the species that live there.
