This proposal will be devastating to Ontario's biodiversity and will lead to the destruction of sensitive and valuable ecosystems across the province. It puts our immediate goal of solving the housing crisis above the long term fact that we as a species NEED a healthy landbase for our survival and independence. Now that the American political situation has made us consider food sovereignty and other local cycles of production more seriously, it should be more obvious than ever that solutions in harmony with our lands and waters are needed. There are other ways to make it more affordable for homebuilders than steam rolling protections for the lands that we rely on. Doug Ford wants to pretend that ecological integrity doesn't matter here, and that we have enough wilderness in northern Ontario to justify southern Ontario's destruction - by the time we realize our inability to save our sovereignty through local regenerative agriculture production, it will be too late. When we no longer have to ability to rely on healthy lands for agriculture, we rely on other provinces, countries, and corporations that do not have our interests at heart and we will be weak to exploitation. We're already largely exploited by these corporate players in the food game, and the window to develop another way is closing. The health of our land is the health of our people, our independence, and our ability to respond to the incoming crises. We won't allow that to be sold.
