I am finding it hard to fathom that an environmental registry would put into place a full environmental assessment and then try to cancel it. I ask any one of you if you would ever consider putting a landfill/dump/waste management facility in the middle of a town. The location of this landfill/dump/waste management facility is literally on top of our town. It is less than 1 km from a beautiful small community. I challenge you to come, look at the site, see how close it is to the town, schools, where people live and location of wells that feed homes. Not to mention there is no way you could ever guarantee that the leaching ponds will never leach no matter what your claim of monitoring this site proposes! This property backs on to Molly's Creek that regularly floods in the spring, which drains into the Sydenham River and eventually travels to our Great Lakes. This is not a safe location for such a facility. There are species at risk that are part of this ecosystem that your ministry is entrusted to protect. Our community as well as outlying areas do not have the infrastructure to support the neverending barrage of trucks that will be transporting this waste to the facility. What they plan to do here will also create excessive noise (grinders and shredders) as well as release toxic particulate into the air we breathe. The quality of life for 3000 people should matter more than money, big business, and Toronto's trash. How many landfills does Chatham Kent have to have?? We already support two, isn't it someone else's turn to take one? I understand we need a place to recycle and put our garbage, but do you mean to tell me, in a province and country this big, the best options are on top of a small community? The Ford government should consider what his people want, like he said in a press conference, "if the people don't want it, we don't do it." Well, we don't want it! This is simply not safe and is putting the health and safety of people and various species at risk!!!
