Good day,
I strongly oppose the proposed Dresden landfill expansion and the Ford government’s attempt to bypass Ontario’s Environmental Assessment process.
This project is a direct threat to the health, safety, and economic future of Dresden and all of Chatham-Kent.
The decision to revoke Ontario Regulation 284/24 — which required a full Environmental Assessment — is not just irresponsible, it's dangerous. You are stripping away public safety mechanisms in favour of private waste companies with clear political ties to the current government.
Let’s be clear:
The natural gas aquifer under this property could potentially level Dresden and surrounding area with an explosion. York1 knows this would never pass the EA and was just waiting for the throne speech to move forward with this landfill. This is extremely dangerous situation for our town.
This site is less than 1 km from a high school
It’s surrounded by homes, farmland, and creeks
It will operate 24/7 with up to 6,000 tonnes of waste per day
There has been no meaningful consultation with residents or Indigenous communities
The project was already opposed by council, experts, and the community — and a full EA was previously granted
The site drains into the Sydenham River watershed — one of Canada’s healthiest. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry must be involved.
Doug Ford is using “Trump’s tariffs” as a cover to fast-track environmental destruction — without evidence, without precedent, and without respect for democratic process. That’s not leadership. That’s a betrayal.
This is the worst possible place to allow this landfill!!!!!!
Rural Ontario is not a dumping ground.
We are not disposable.
I demand the full Environmental Assessment be reinstated, and this project halted immediately.
