I am writing to express serious concerns about the proposed expansion of the YORK1 Regenerative Recycling Facility in Dresden, Ontario.
As a resident, I believe this development poses significant risks to our community, environment, and quality of life.
The proposal includes a massive increase in daily waste intake and storage—up to 6,000 tonnes per day—and would overwhelm Dresden’s limited infrastructure, strain roads and services, and create substantial noise and traffic issues.
Of equal concern is the environmental threat. The facility sits in a flood plain and borders Molly's Creek, a habitat for several endangered species. The expansion also threatens nearby sensitive sites, including three schools, cemeteries, and the Josiah Henson Museum of African Canadian History.
Local businesses like Conagra, a food processor, could also be impacted, raising public health concerns.
With 83 endangered species in the area and numerous community and environmental risks, this proposal requires thorough scrutiny.
Under no circumstances should the Environmental Assessment be canceled. It is the only tool ensuring transparency, accountability, and protection for our community and environment.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
