I think this is a bad idea and this puts species even more at risk. A “complicated” and “slow” process is necessary to ensure that a company will receive a permit ONLY if there is limited risk to endangered species and critical habitat. This proposed bill only seeks to remove the certainties of conservation and it is clear that it was created to line the pockets of big businesses and companies, at the extreme cost of losing vital protection for Ontario’s species. I feel as though the existing Endangered Species Act has kept our species conserved for a reason, and has kept their habitats flourishing. Do not change this, it is unwise. A large part of Ontario’s economy is tourism and appreciating the natural world and the biodiversity we have, and that is more priceless than a mine or a warehouse.
