I strongly oppose Schedule 8 of the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025, which would exempt all projects related to the Ontario Place redevelopment — including those not located at the Ontario Place site but supporting the project — from Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993.
Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights guarantees a minimum level of public participation in government decisions on environmentally significant policies, laws, regulations, and projects. By removing these requirements, Schedule 8 would eliminate both public input and transparency concerning environmentally impactful decisions tied to Ontario Place.
This amendment appears designed to advance private sector interests at the expense of public accountability and environmental protection. I urge the Government of Ontario to withdraw Schedule 8 from the proposed legislation.
