This decision not only undermines transparency and public trust, but also poses a serious threat to the health, environment, and well-being of the citizens of Dresden and the surrounding region.

The proposed dump site lies less than one kilometre from residential areas—a distance that raises significant concerns about air quality, groundwater contamination, and the overall safety of local ecosystems. Without a comprehensive environmental assessment, there is no meaningful way to identify, assess, or mitigate the short- and long-term risks associated with such a facility. This effectively leaves our community exposed to potentially irreversible harm.

Environmental assessments are a crucial safeguard. They ensure that projects are subject to public scrutiny, scientific analysis, and regulatory oversight. Their removal not only diminishes the government’s responsibility to uphold environmental stewardship but also erodes our community’s right to be informed and involved in decisions that directly impact our lives.

Dresden is a small, close-knit community with a strong agricultural and natural heritage. The placement of a dump in such proximity threatens local water sources, air quality, and the surrounding farmland. It could also have lasting effects on property values, mental health, and the quality of life for all residents—particularly children and seniors, who are most vulnerable to pollution and environmental hazards.

I urge the Ontario government to reinstate the requirement for a full environmental assessment for the Dresden dump project. Our community deserves transparency, science-based decision-making, and a real opportunity to have our voices heard.
