This proposal is an egregious attempt to remove necessary protections for endangered and at-risk species. Furthermore, this removes transparency requirements for developers when they are trying to construct on taxpayer owned lands within Ontario.
It would make far more sense to designate specific areas where environmental and indigenous input has been provided where construction and infrastructure can be accelerated. This would ensure proper third party vetting of areas designated for development versus a blank slate approach where these laws and rules can be circumvented by greedy developers.
The current proposal, as is, only benefits wealthy developers in their pursuit of owning public land for profit.
