I am writing to support the removal of the wpd project.
The turbines should be dismantled ... and quickly. Then the lands that have been disturbed should be returned to their natural state ... as well as the roads that have been chewed up by wpd's construction activity.
From the outset of this initiative, it was understood by most Prince Edward County residents (in particular those living along the south shore) that there was something wrong with locating this wind turbine project along the south shore of Prince Edward County, an important bird migratory corridor and sanctuary and home to several endangered bird and animal species. Testimony delivered at a series of ERTs made this perfectly clear.
Because of this clarity, the initially proposed 75 turbines were slowly but surely reduced through the decisions of the ERTs until a mere 9 remained.
Good sense, at that moment, ought to have entered the equation and wpd should have backed off. This was the wrong place for the project: it was now too small to be economically viable, it violated a host of environmental safeguards for wildlife, and a clear majority of full-time Prince Edward County citizens were against the initiative proceeding.
But wpd persisted and, in a welter of activity during the months of May and June 2018, erected 4 of the turbines and parts of (I think) 3 others. This activity was in direct contravention of an age-old "agreement" not to proceed during an election period with projects that might hamstring an incoming government.
wpd in its arrogance did not care to abide by custom and forged ahead ... working around the clock.
Now, we have these white elephants that, had good sense prevailed during the ERTs, would never have seen the light of day.
I cannot state too strongly that they should now be removed ... as per the legislation in place.
