The proposed Amendment to the Ontario Heritage Act, Schedule 7 is unethical and a detriment to the future peoples of Ontario. Archaeological assessments need to be conducted to ensure that no history is lost in the name of development. The robust system of archaeological assessments done in Ontario is necessary for Ontarians to understand our shared history. Archaeological assessment allows us to respect the First Nations of Ontario by locating their ancestorial land and sharing that knowledge with future generations as per UNDRIP. We should not through the history of Ontario away so we can build faster, why not try building up, instead of out.
