Allowing development on lands that have not been archaeologically assessed is ethically wrong. Firstly, it disregards indigenous communities who connect to archaeological finds as a way of connecting to their history and culture, which the government has tried repeatedly to diminish. This proposal will only continue to strain the relationship between indigenous communities and the province. Secondly, archaeological assessments are integral environmental assessments that help complete whole pictures of an area's history and environment to aid in comprehensive new construction. Completing archaeological assessments before construction ensures that significant sites and resources are not destroyed in the process.
