The Ontario government is pushing forward a proposed landfill in Dresden without the full environmental assessment that was promised to the community. This decision not only betrays public trust, it also threatens one of Canada’s most biodiverse freshwater ecosystems — the Sydenham River — which is home to over 20 species at risk.
The site borders sensitive wetlands, sits on a floodplain, and could receive up to 500 tonnes of asbestos waste daily. The risks of groundwater contamination, toxic leachate runoff, and methane emissions are real and irreversible.
I urge you to reject this proposal and demand the environmental assessment that would be and should continue to be required.
