The conscious erosion of environmental and cultural protections to facilitate quicker construction timelines is a page taken directly from the Donald Trump School of Government. These protections are not red tape, as they are being characterized. When Developers engage in a timely manner...not delaying until the end of the process...neither natural nor cultural heritage are delays. Secondly, once you destroy an environmental or heritage resource, that cannot be repaired, replaced, or resurrected. Ecosystems, species at risk, Indigenous history, heritage structures, etc. are invaluable to Ontario's identity and pride; removing protections makes us no better than our southern neighbours. We can unleash our economy through thoughtful planning while retaining our cultural and environmental protections that make Ontario a fantastic place to live, work, and raise the next generation.
I implore this Government to reconsider the removal or reduction of these protections and, instead, focus on ways to encourage all Stakeholders to work together to foster needed construction projects while protecting the irreplaceable.
Thank you.
