I find it hard to believe that you would consider this an option. Not only is this cruel at the time of year you suggest, leaving young to die, but I find it hard to believe that hunters would retrieve the bodies especially if they have shot 50 so they will be left to suffer and die slowly or rot in the water.
There is a natural waxing and waning of populations and nature has a way of dealing with that, such as Newcastle Disease which seems to be more prevalent every year.
It is my opinion that this drastic intervention is unnecessary and inhumane.
