Thank you for the opportunity to submit comments on behalf of the Town of Innisfil on the proposed Natural Heritage System Mapping.
Our comments would like to reflect those made by the County of Simcoe. The County already has a Greenlands natural heritage system already identified in its Official Plan. This 'Greenlands' overlay is also reflected in the Town of Innisfil's Official Plan as a 'Natural Heritage System' overlay and is further refined through the Natural Environment Area land use designation to protect the natural heritage and environmental features of these areas. The Town has recently undergone an "Our Place" Official Plan update process to further refine and articulate this localized "Natural Heritage System" overall and the implementing "Natural Environmental Area" land use designation. Due to these efforts at reflecting and refining the County of Simcoe's "Greenlands" layer into the Town's Official Plan, we therefore support the County of Simcoe's submission and request that the Ministry's proposed Natural Heritage System mapping be modified to reflect the County's existing "Greenlands" overlay. On this basis, the NHS mapping should support the ability of municipalities to further refine the NHS at a more localized level.
