We need an environmental assessment. The government are attempting to make this landfill through a loophole starting 40 years ago. Not to mention the smell, but the species at risk of extinction if this mega landfill is established include a great population of honey bees. Giving government the ability to simply plot landfills where ever they choose without consultation of the surrounding population is infuriating. As a member of the population, I am outraged that the thought of this environmental bomb is still in discussion. The bill 197 states that landfills may not be built within a 3 kilometre range of a town. If this was established, it would stand at a mere 800 meters away from the town of Dresden. An environmental assessment is necessary to understand the true lengths this mega landfill could damage and destroy species, air quality, and the environment as a whole. Attempting to create a landfill size of 1.6 MILLION cubic meters with no further information on how this could impact the environment and surrounding population significantly. Another factor included in this landfill is the consequential decrease in property value in the near area. Continuing, this landfill will surely attract insects and bacteria that promote diseases throughout the surrounding area, causing sickness among plants, humans, and animals alike. Finally, if we need one more reason not to build this mega dump, since the dump will be located merely 800 meters from the town, this will lead to the overflow of the leach ponds, Filled with bacteria will eventually drain into the Great Lakes. We employ that the government will chose an alternative to the mega dump and listen to our pleas.
