"The government would also have discretion to remove protected species from the list [of protected species]." This is unacceptable and invalidates the very real need for a science-based committee. The government cannot pick and choose when it respects science.
Furthermore, the registration-first approach completely removes oversight and creates a situation where developers will have an even clearer path to do immediate damage to the environment in the name of profit, and simply pay the financial consequences later if and when they are caught.
This is bad for Ontario. If we do not care for our environment, then we will soon find ourselves in a situation where our environment cannot care for us.
Business and development are doing fine, and that THIS is the focus of this government when we have REAL problems to address is telling that this government cares more about its friends than the general public.
