The impact to the community will be devastating. We are a rural community and agriculture is a huge part of our lives. Growing crops and raising livestock is necessary for our community and the province, country, and beyond our borders. Our food and grains are top quality and we need to protect the soil and the water supply.
Preventing and eliminating the environmental impact process says the government doesn’t care about the people, the food supply and livelihoods of the people of Chatham-Kent and Lambton. In addition to the health concerns, the increased activity of large trucks will have a negative impact on the communities. Our roads are not made for the volume of heavy truck traffic and potentially dangerous situations for schoolchildren utilizing buses to go to school.
Farm machinery needs the roads to move from field to field and time is paramount when planting, and harvesting crops. The noise pollution and traffic congestion will impact the lives of all families in the area. Additionally, house values will drop significantly with a dump in our backyard.
This dump is currently set for building materials, and what stops it from being household waste in the future? Nothing, because the word of the provincial government has been proven to be untrustworthy. Reversing the decision for the environmental impact study proves this point.
Do not allow this disastrous project to happen without the environmental impact study being completed independently of the government and those who will benefit from it.
Thank you.
