Before last years by election the town of Dresden was granted a full environmental assessment by Ontario’s environmental minister, the progressive conservatives that ran for the byelection are on record opposing the Dresden landfill. Now the Ford government is going back on its promise by introducing Bill 5 which would eliminate and stop the full environmental assessment that the town of Dresden was promised. The owners of the Dresden landfill are donors to Ford’s PC Party, they have donated around $200,000 to the PCs. Dresden landfill owners and associates have purchased tickets to the PCs political fundraiser that Ford attended, just weeks after the minister promised a full environmental assessment on the Dresden landfill site. Doug Ford has close ties to the owners of the Dresden landfill site therefore a conflict of interest is at stake. The people of Dresden are opposed to the Dresden landfill operating in any capacity and to have a government go back on their promise of a full environmental assessment is wrong. The financial ties that the Ford government has with the owners of the dump property of Dresden is a conflict of interest and thus the full assessment must resume which will eventually show that this location is not a good fit for the town of Dresden.
