I am deeply concerned about Bill 5, Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy. I can understand that we need to protect ourselves from foreign interests but nestled in the bill is the ability to avoid or circumvent protections of endangered species and the environment.
We must protect our natural environment as a natural resource. This means we need to protect species at risk by protecting their habitats. It is alarming how many birds, mammals, retiles and amphibians and insects have declined since we have favoured population expansion in the last 25 years. We can’t continue to leave these creatures no room in our land. Our constant growth will destroy our environment to our own diminishment both physically and spiritually. I demand that these hard won protections be preserved unchanged in this bill.
