The Dresden Dump
As a resident of Dresden, Ontario I want to express my views on the proposed dump by York 1. A full and complete environmental assessment is necessary to expose all the reasons why a transfer station/recycling/landfill site should not be allowed at this site. It is necessary for the safety of our community and surrounding areas.
The first concern is the location of the dump. It is located 500 meters from the town of Dresden.
The Molly Creek/Sydenham River is situated in a known flood plan as stated on the internet. The river involves a large area, running through Dresden, to Tupperville, through Wallaceburg onto the First Nations at Walpole Island finally flowing into the St. Clair River, The Sydenham River runs through acres of valuable productive farm land which will be contaminated by runoff from the dump. With large rainfalls the proposed leachate ponds (which are very toxic) will spill over into Molly Creek destroying surrounding water wells, killing off multiple endangered species found only in this particular area. The dump in the future will cause multiple health issue which in time will cost millions to the already struggling health care system, contaminate food, decrease property values (already happening), loss of potential businesses moving into the area, lose of present businesses, increase in noise, air pollution and offensive smell, garbage falling of the trucks and garbage blowing off the dump, increase of rodents and bug infestations.
The truck traffic will be horrendous. It is estimated 700-750 truck per day coming to the dump then leaving the dump 24hours, 7 days a week. There are 2 schools are located on the main street of Dresden on the way to the dump. There will be multiple slow moving farm vehicles and buses on the highways every day for the majority of the year. How safe will the roads be for everyone? Not to mention the truck traffic pounding up our highways and damaging our town’s little cement bridge. These trucks will be coming from all over Ontario. Put the dump close to the areas creating all this garbage, close to the big cities!!!
Please note Chatham Kent already has a large dump! Why do we need to have a second dump in our Kent county.
I repeat, a complete environmental assessment is needed.
