Dresden is located in the western tip of Ontario, only 30 km from the U.S. border. Virtually all garbage would be coming from the east. The two closest Kings highways are 402 to the north and 401 to the south . Trucks exiting the 402 travel south 50 km on a two lane highway through Reece’s Corners, Wyoming, Petrolia, Oil City, Oil Springs, skirts Rutherford, to the dump 800 metres from Dresden. Trucks exiting 401 travel through either Thamesville and Wabash, or Kent Bridge, depending on which exit they use, then through Dresden, on a two lane highway, approximately 30 km. The ENTIRE area on both routes is farmland, some of the best in Ontario. The main crops grown are corn, soybeans, wheat, and tomatoes. Each crop has different growing seasons and especially harvest seasons. This means all kinds of farm equipment on the roads from April through November. Harvest season has thousands of slow moving, heavily loaded tractors and wagons. Add in year round school buses starting and stopping, plus the regular traffic, you’re looking at an accident waiting to happen. It’s inevitable. Also the wear and tear on highways with an additional 700 trucks a day travelling on them. Plus the danger of polluting the nearby Mollys Creek and Sydenham River, this location makes zero sense to me. Why can’t this dump be located in central Ontario, near the 401? The savings from operating it there would more than pay for the land. Plus the savings on road repairs, fuel, the environment, etc. Just because you think you can piggyback on the license this dump was awarded for Dresden and surrounding area doesn’t make it right, and like I said, the location makes ZERO sense,….. even if it wasn’t close to a town.
