Faster permitting does not equal better permitting. Suspending provincial laws and bylaws that were set up in order to protect our environment and ensure proper compliance is a ridiculous decision and will have horrible consequences. There are serious questions about the rule of law. These existing laws were passed with policy balancing and considerations already analyzed, and to allow Bill 5 to overrule these laws would go against democracy. Bill 5 could result in the creation of "law-free zones" and dangerous discretionary exemptions. I understand the current political environment and the need for development amid the US tariffs. But we should not promote short term gains at the expense of long term environmental harm. We should not be so short-minded. It is imperative we protect the environment long term, which requires long term thinking and not trying to speed up permitting just to look good to Canadians. Economic development wont mean anything in the future if our country's resources are adversely impacted and carelessly exploited. Do not allow Bill 5 to be passed for the sake of our beautiful country's environment and future. We have seen what happens when people priortize efficiency and development/profit. Do not allow industry players to exploit our country and circumvent our laws.
