As it is written, Bill 5 aims to unlock the economic potential of Ontario at the cost of Ontario.

It would allow for developments and projects to proceed in a manner that violates the foundation of our rights as residents of this province.

I do not approve of the current government under Doug Ford to override our laws, our need to consult with residents and taxpayers, our duty to consult on the environment on and surrounding these projects in addition to the potential environmental damage caused by increased natural weather and fire events.

This bill aims to allow the government to designate our lands, freely, to whomever they wish. This bills would remove oversight at all points in development. It would allow an arbitrary designation that no one would ever be able to object to.

This bill does not indicate that it will choose Ontarians or Canadian companies over international companies and this bill guts any and all protections for ALL species including vulnerable and endangered.

Should this bill pass, it also opens the doors to further degradation of labour laws, health and safety.

This bill WILL cost the taxpayers more money in healthcare when waste is dumped into water ways, it will cost us more in food production when hunters can’t rely on game for food because habitats have been destroyed or their food sources are contaminated. It will also cost us more in food production when prime agricultural regions are chosen to be developed. It will cost us more money in insurance payouts when wetlands are filled will massive homes or fires take hold when forests die because of lack of environmental protections.

This bill must be stopped. It is not benefitting Ontario. It is benefitting a Premier who enjoys selling us out to the highest bidders.
