The Dresden landfill threatens prime farmland. With food security becoming an increasing concern—especially in light of trade uncertainties like Trump's tariffs—many argue that Ontario should prioritize self-sufficiency in food production rather than sacrificing agricultural land for waste disposal.
Let me highlight several key issues:
Loss of fertile land – The site is surrounded by productive farmland, which could be permanently damaged by contamination.
Food security risks – With global trade disruptions, maintaining local food production is more critical than ever.
Environmental concerns – The cancellation of the environmental assessment means potential risks to water, air, and soil may not be properly evaluated.
Instead of using Trump’s tariffs as a justification for canceling the promised Environmental Assessment, Ford’s government should focus on safeguarding Dresden’s prime farmland and advantageous growing season.
