The use of archaeology as a pre-development screening is incredibly important as it provides numerous entry level job opportunities at a liveable wage but more importantly is that this process is actively strengthening connections with indigenous communities. Canada has a terribly history of neglecting, damaging and killing indigenous heritage, and archaeology allows for steps to be taken to re-kindle a better relationship. Developing land without clearing it for historical importance is re-affirming that Canada does not care about indigenous heritage, which is a disgrace.
