I am opposed to the creation of Special Economic Zones as they are described in Schedule 9 of the Protecting Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act 2025. I read this as giving permission for the government to do away with legal safeguards that protect vulnerable communities and Indigenous people and allowing corporations to bypass labour and environmental laws. And to do so unilaterally. Our Indigenous communities deserve respect and consultation on any activity on their land. At this point in Canada's history, it feels like an imperative. If showing this respect takes time, then so be it. They have been waiting a long time, now it's time for corporate interests to wait.
