I live metres away from this proposed dump site. And yes, it is a dump site. It is NOT a recycling facility. I chose to buy my house on the edge of town to have the benefits of being close to everything, but not actually being in town. I wanted to have fields all around me. I wanted a large yard to garden and have flower beds. Now there is a proposed dump that will be directly across from me. It will contaminate my property on every level. It will affect air quality, just from the trucks alone that will be continually driving to and from. There is no regard for the run off that will go into our groundwater. It will go directly into Molly's Creek which feeds into the Sydenham which feeds into multiple bodies of water used for fishing throughout Southwestern Ontario. It will affect the soil of my property because of run off as well.
This proposed dump keeps me awake at night. It is affecting my mental health with the fear of not only living next to a dump, but also that my property value will plummet.
I also think of the place that I grew up in. That my friends grew up in. We decided to stay here because we love our community. York1 is about to ruin that for us. It is about to take away everything from us.
An environmental assessment will, without a doubt, make clear this is NOT a location for a dump. How can you place a dump less than 1.5 km from town? A school? A river that is one of Canada's most diverse ecological locations?
If York1 thinks placing a dump this close to a community is a good idea, then why not have it closer to Toronto? Especially if an Environmental Assessment is not deemed necessary.
