I am opposed to Bill 5.

Bill 5 is an affront to Indigenous Rights and disregards the Crown's (Province included) Duty to Consult and where appropriate accommodate. By fast-tracking development through a one-size fits all Bill, you are not only not allowing Ontarians a say in how development happens throughout the province--thinking about are we protecting flood lands, are we ensuring that we don't disrupt wildlife habitats (such as the Ontario government did at Ontario Place, displacing many species by cutting down a forest in the middle of the night)--BUT you are also violating Treaty Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This is in contravention of established treaties and also the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples which the Federal government has adopted even if the Ontario government has left it on the table without adoption.

You must not allow Bill 5 to go through. I am opposed to Bill 5.

I stand with Indigenous Rights. Ontario Regional Chief Abram Benedict has stated that “As we have said time and time again, any development or legislation that affects First Nations’ inherent or Treaty rights must have their free, prior and informed consent." And it is necessary that the Province not overstep its place and honour, respect, and adhere to established treaties AND go above and beyond in the spirit of reconciliation.
