Hello to the government of Ontario, I would like to address my concerns as a student about these changes. As an environmentalist myself, I find it disheartening to hear about these changes and the effects there will surely be. My thoughts on this are that this act should simply not happen, or at the very least not be as severe as they are planned to be right now. Sure you will earn money by mining this area, but what will you do with money when it’s all we have left? Not to mention, going against Indigenous peoples wishes again, it seems history repeats itself. This bill takes away provincial and municipal laws in certain zones, but this means it is taking protection away from endangered species, from their habitats, and from indigenous lands. There is next to no regard for the species, what with the new definition of “habitat” and the narrowing of the Endangered Species Act, their true value will only be realized when they are gone. I understand that you are the government and you have the last word, but we live in a democratic country where my voice can make a difference, I truly hope you take this into consideration.
