I strongly oppose the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act. This proposal, if implemented, will put animal habitats in need of protection at risk all in the name of economic benefit by cutting red tape. However, this benefit will not serve Ontarians and does not outweigh the irreversible effects on our environment and Ontario’s biodiversity. The safeguards of the Endangered Species Act are essential to maintaining and ideally fostering vibrant animal life and ecosystems that we all depend on.
This proposal is not in the public interest and instead it represents one more compromise in environmental protection, at a time when Ontario along with the rest of the planet is facing a climate and biodiversity crisis.
